We're approaching week 5 of lockdown in this unprecedented, uncertain and very difficult time. Some of us are thriving: enjoying doing nothing or having a whole heap of things to keep occupied ... however, if you're struggling to come up with ideas to cure your boredom, or feel that you need to keep busy, then have a little read of this list that I've compiled.
A is for Art
Whether you've done a GCSE in art, or haven't picked up an art tool since primary school, you can get involved! There are so many ways that you can get your creative juices flowing!! ... painting; drawing; photography; illustrating; recreating masterpieces; calligraphy; making sculptures. I love this idea of recreating famous artwork, it looks fab!B is for Baking
Now is the perfect time to become a star baker whilst it's difficult to get our favourite treats from the shops!! ... that's if you can find some flour. I have already posted a recipe for a fun cake that I made, and I plan on doing some more recipe posts in the next few weeks!C is for Come Dine With Me
More time on our hands = more time to experiment with food! Why not make a few evening's of it and organise an in-house Come Dine With Me game? Cook up 2 courses ... or 3 if you're feeling bold ... and provide the evening's entertainment!D is for DIY
Last week I've painted an old cabinet which was knocking around in the garage. Perfect to give you something to do and improve the appearance of your home. I'm sure there's a shelf you've always needed to put up but 'haven't had the time' and there are probably lots of little alterations you'd like to make to your home.E is for Exercise
We can't sit around all day, it gets boring and quite frankly, we NEED to move every once in a while! I've been loving doing HIIT workouts in my room, I also tried (emphasis on tried!) to go for a run the other day. There are so many things you can be doing though ... PE with Joe Wicks ... cycling ... walking ... whipping out the old Wii or XBOX Kinect games ... gardening can even be a form of exercise I suppose?F is for Films
There are so many new releases on Netflix, Amazon Prime and of course, there's the new Disney +. I've compiled a list of all the films that have been added to Disney + that I'd like to watch, some oldie-goldie favourites, some new ones I've not even really heard of, then I can tick them off as I go, and there's a sense of achievement through watching films!!G is for Games Night
The list of games to play is endless ... card games, Uno, Monopoly, Cluedo, Twister, Kerplunk, Dobble, Scrabble, Battleships, Jenga ...H is for Hide and Seek
Okay, it may be aimed at 5 year olds, but hear me out ... it can actually be really fun! Remember all the old hiding places and sneak around the house. If you have a big garden, you can even extend the game outside.I is for Ivy League Free Online Courses
The 8 American Ivy League Schools - Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University and Yale University - are offering 450 free online courses; they could be the perfect challenge if you can find some that are suited to you. Browse through the courses on Class Central.J is for Jobs
Whether that's looking into career prospects, or updating your CV. ... you could also take 'Jobs' as being productive around the house, or completing assignments for uni.K is for Knead
... kneading bread. Again, if you can manage to get your hands on yeast and some flour, give it a go, perfect a loaf of bread, or make pizza from scratch!L is for Learn A New Language
With the uncertainty of not knowing when we'll escape lockdown, why not attempt to learn a new language. A lot of people have tried to take up sign language.M is for Music
There is so so so much music out there that you'll have never heard of, listen to some new tunes, or your favourite throwbacks or create some perfect playlists.N is for Nightclub
I've been seeing quite a few homemade 'clubs', where the lights are dimmed (maybe even a disco light too!) and a bar has been set up, maybe even a DJ booth too! This sounds like such a fun idea, also with no age restrictions and being able to choose all the music, it could work out quite well!O is for Organise
There's no better time than now to organise your whole life! Yes that's right - do it all, from organising your cluttered wardrobe, to your kitchen cupboards, to your schedules. You know what they say ... a tidy house is a tidy mind ... or something like that (?!), besides it's hard to ignore the mess when you're surrounded by it now more than ever.P is for Photo Albums
Photo albums always sound like a lovely idea, but they just take so long, and now you finally have the time! Get all nostalgic and order your favourite pictures into scrapbooks.Q is for Quizzes
Bring the pub quiz to you!R is for Read
I've been trying to 'rediscover' reading during this lockdown. I've felt like I've had much more chance to read because I'm not busy going to see friends etc.S is for Spring Clean
You'll only be living in the mess, so give your house a good scrub down so you can properly relax in your lovely and clean room.T is for Theatre
... specifically, The National Theatre on YouTube. They are premiering various theatre performances each Thursday to be aired for one week only. So far there's been: Richard Bean's 'One Man, Two Guvnors'; Charlotte Brontë's 'Jane Eyre' ; Robert Louis Stevenson's 'Treasure Island' and next week's viewing is William Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night'.U is for Unwind
Have some time to yourself. Pamper yourself, whether that be having a relaxing bath, watching your favourite series or putting on a face mask, just give your body a treat.V is for Volunteer
If you're able to, maybe consider doing your bit for the community - helping a neighbour or going further and volunteering for the NHS.W is for Waste Time
Just do nothing, enjoy being bored! Sometimes when you've been so busy, being bored feels so relaxing!X is for Xylophone
... okay, x is a hard one ... but you could learn to play a new instrument, or remind yourself of how to play again.Y is for YouTube
YouTube is a wonderful platform! You can learn so much through YouTube videos, or simply enjoy a watching vlog.
Z is for Zoom
Organise a Zoom call. Stay in touch with people, check up on people, it helps keep you sane. We all need some friendly voices!![]() |
